The project connects scientific research elements with the spiritual aspects of liberating the mind. The test person is attached to a spectroscope. Her head has connected transmitters and receivers through which infrared light passes. This is a method used in cognitive tests. Instead of using the logical rebuses (which are common in research projects), the examined person responds to the Zen koans. It is a Buddhist method of bringing the student to develop self-awareness, and achieve light. Asking abstract questions puts our material mind on the brink of the abyss. This is synonymous with bringing the body into a meditative state, which is the most desirable aspects of spiritual development. Departure from habits, and attempts to think in completely different trajectories than on a daily basis, are contributing to broadening the scope of perception.
Except for the recording from the study, I attach video showing a graph obtained from the spectroscope. Each line corresponds to the signal from a single detector. So we have a signal with 30 detectors. The signal from each detector changes its amplitude over time. The vertical axis is the amplitude of the signals from the detectors, the horizontal axis shows time.
Pictures were presented on the table type of light box. They are printed on the foil backlit, in a shade of ultraviolet. This color has to associate with the results of research and meditation prevalent in the color purple, which is usually seen by people firmly embedded in the inner world, the spiritual world. There is a series of abstract images which symbolize me a strong spiritual dimension. Fish is a symbol of transition between two worlds, circle have been driven on newly seeded grass, is a symbol of the sun, graphical instructions for use detectors reminds me of mandala, and bears … it’s just my power animal.
Through virtualization of the world, I am trying to create some sort of simulacrum. But my goal is not to split people, but to adapt them to being split every day and draw new conclusions.
